DOUBLE Beautiful People: Reniseb and Ukani; Reniseb and Yahmose

Somehow I managed to miss these two. Which is sad, because they are both awesome, and are very compatible with the Pendant and its characters. I guess its good that I missed them, because when they first came out, I didn't understand Reniseb and Ukani, and I didn't know anything about the relationship between Reniseb and Yahmose.

So, I will start with the valentine edition, and do Reniseb and Ukani.

How long have they been a couple?
For me? Or for them? And if for them, at what point in the book do we start? I am going to say for them, and start at the end of the book. They have been together for six to nine months, possibly a year, maybe way less. I haven't decided.

How did they first meet?
To ruin the romance, they first encountered one another outside Reniseb's room. Ukani had been in possession of the room, but a flighty Tiye had kicked him out in favor of Reniseb. Ukani had already been drinking and was in a very bad mood, so as soon as Reniseb walked around the corner, he started yelling at her and insulting her. Then Reniseb, being a shy little thing, turned around and ran away.

What were their first thoughts of each other? (Love at first sight or “you’re freakishly annoying”?)
Reniseb first found Ukani to be just what he was, a crass, annoying, usually drunk, jerk.
Ukani first found Reniseb also to be what she was. An easily frightened, easily ordered around, silent girl with no spirit. And an irrational (at least in his opinion) fear of him.

What do they do that most annoys each other?
Reniseb's naturally more submissive and quiet nature often annoys Ukani. And Ukani's tendency to be overbearing and rude annoys Reniseb.

Are their personalities opposite or similar?
Pretty much opposite, but they both have lost people they love and have seen death, and are fighting the pain of those memories, just in different ways. Ukani drowns himself in drink, and Reniseb walls up and shuts down her emotions.

How would their lives be different without each other?
If Ukani had never been born, Reniseb would have spent the rest of her life being miserable without knowing it, sitting in her house, watching her father crumble and wither away, and losing more and more of herself in the process.
If Reniseb had never been born, Ukani would have spent the rest of his life drinking, and doing the most foolish and reckless things he could think of, wondering if and even hoping that the next one might just kill him.

Are they ever embarrassed of each other?
Embarrassed for each other, or embarrassed because of each other? Ukani has a tendency to be rude, and this often makes court and courtesy born Reniseb cringe.

Does anyone disapprove of their relationship?
Nefru wanted Reniseb for himself, so I think its safe to say he disapproves. Rashidi almost has a heart attack when he finds out. Reniseb's father is too far gone to care or notice. Amenhotep, knowing of Ukani's questionable past, is wary, but soon gives his blessing. Tiye adores the match. And Tseskos, while she loves Ukani, is furious at the thought of someone stealing her Reniseb.

Do they see their relationship as long-term/leading to marriage?
One must first understand a little of the Ancient Egyptian definition of marriage. Basically, if two people lived together, they were married. For the women, unless they ran away, their father's permission was needed before they could move in with their lover, at least if they did not want to be scorned by society. And of course many fathers sent plenty of money with their daughters.
That said, I shall spoil everything by telling you that Ukani and Reniseb receive Pharaoh's blessing on their union at the end of the book, and for all other purposes are married about half to two thirds of the way through.

If they could plan the “perfect outing” together, where would they go?
They would go sit on the banks of the Nile alone together, and enjoy the dark and the silence.

And now for the Sibling Edition, Reniseb and Yahmose

What is the first memory they have of each other?
Yahmose first memory of Reniseb is being aloud to hold her right after she was born.

Describe their relationship in 3 words. What kind of things do they like to do together?
Love. Trust. Respect.
They loved to play in their imaginary kingdom together. Basically they like to do everything together.

What was their biggest fight?
They were only together for ten years, the first few of which Reniseb was a baby. They never really had time to have a real, big argument. Probably their biggest was about some stupid thing that no one (including me) remembers.

How far would they go to save each other?
As far as they had to. No reserves. No hesitation.

What are their pet peeves about each other?
As Yahmose got older, he was occasionally a little patronizing to Reniseb, this got on her nerves a lot.

What are their favorite things about each other?
Too long to list?

What traits do they share? Mannerisms, clothing, quirks, looks, etc?
In terms of looks, they were very different. Yahmose has soft brown eyes, and his mother's nice, soft nose, but the rest of his face is a copy of his father's. Reniseb has her father's sharp nose, her mother's jaw and eye shape, and black hair and black eyes.

Who has the strongest personality?
Yahmose. Had.

How does their relationship change throughout your story?
Their relationship changes not a whit. But what happened to Yahmose serves as the basis for Reniseb's character.

I am wondering how to further stress the fact that Yahmose Is Dead.

And so a young man took leave of a little girl, and she kissed him on the cheek, like the good sister she was, and he rode away. And she waited for him. Everyday, she climbed the garden wall, and found her way to the docks, to see if a boat had brought him home. She never spoke to anyone, because she was afraid, but she was faithful, and she kept her watch.
But my brother never came back. A misguided arrow had buried itself in the person I loved most. The twang of a bowstring, and everything was over, just like that.
